Here’s an interesting statistic to ponder. Thus far this year, the death toll for the United States military in Afghanistan is 149 while the number of murders in Chicago is 228. Although the circumstances of these deaths are vastly different, it can serve to remind everyone that violence is never too far from home.
How can we continue to hold up our western society as a model for others to emulate as long as we have not addressed the issue of violence that is integrated into our own approach to conflict resolution? Perhaps we need to spend more time looking in the mirror before we point fingers. db
